Fantastic Food
All meals and snacks are provided for the children on a daily basis.We employ a fully qualified cook with over 30 years’ experience and she prepares all the meals freshly on the premises.
In March 2012 we maintained the “Platinum Healthy Eating Award”, followed by a 5 “Very Good” Food Hygiene Rating by Shropshire Council; the highest healthy eating accolade and hygiene award they give. We have since maintained a 5 “Very Good” Food Hygiene Rating to date. The setting has also participated in the Schools Food Trust project ‘Eat Better Start Better’ which promotes the Voluntary Food and Drinks Guidelines for Early Years Settings in England.
Mealtimes are very much a social occasion and the children sit with their key person in small groups. Children are encouraged to sit at the table and use good table manners, whilst also being taught to use their knives, forks and spoons correctly.
The children are also encouraged to try all food and drinks; however, individual dietary needs/choices are always taken into account. Please provide any dietary details on your enrolment form or notify a member of staff.
The main meal of the day is served at lunch-time and a snack will be provided at tea-time. The children have access to fresh drinking water throughout the day, and they are able to help themselves to this independently wherever possible and milk is also offered at lunch-time.
The baby meals can be prepared specifically to meet the current stage of the child’s development; ie; pureed, liquidised, finger food, etc. and we also provide a selection of packet weaning foods for the very young babies. We adopt a bottle and breast feeding friendly policy and we encourage all parents/carers to discuss their individual preferences with a member of staff, who will be able to support and advise them on appropriate practice.
The meal times are as follows, but these times are only a guide and there may be a variation on the times, depending on the individual needs of the child:
